Our Lessons
Rockin' Out will come visit your school or host your class on UW campus free of charge. We send volunteer undergrad and graduate students to teach on a variety of topics for a classroom setting or other science event. We have a number of pre-made lesson plans and hands on demos, but we are also happy to work with you to create a lesson that best fits your class. Click on the images below to learn more about what we offer for that topic.
Geology is the scientific study of rocks and the processes by which they change over time.
Earthquakes are key Earth science processes caused by the movement of tectonic plates across the globe. They are very common in the Pacific Northwest.
Geomorphology is the study of the origin of geologic features created on and near the Earth's surface.
Mars is the most Earth-like planet in our solar system. Astrobiologists study the potential for life on Mars.
Geochronologists help us learn how to tell time in rocks using fossils and radioactive isotopes.
Glaciology is the study of glaciers. Interactions of glaciers and climate are an important topic of study in today's changing world.
Volcanoes are caused by the subduction of tectonic plates. Many famous mountains in Washington are volcanoes such as Mount Baker, Mount Rainier, and most famously, Mount St. Helens.
Paleontology is the study of ancient life on Earth and helps us understand how we evolved as a species.
