CoENV Diversity Meeting
On Tuesday, November 7th Rockin’ Out teamed up with outreach groups in Atmospheric Sciences and Fisheries to host the “Diversity in Outreach” workshop, a half day workshop on how our outreach efforts can increase interaction with traditionally underserved communities. This workshop took the form of two panel discussions: the first related to how our outreach programs can make lasting connections with these communities, and the second on how to interact with diverse audiences considering mindfulness of interests and customs, and accessibility. There were a total of 32 attendees including the panelists and organizers, and their affiliation comprised a wide array of campus programs (Seattle MESA, wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ – Intellectual House, DDSCP, the Pipeline Project, UW-IT, and JISAO), and academic departments (ESS, SAFS, Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanography, SEFS, and Physics). Overall the event was a huge success in connecting outreachers with advice, resources, and with one another, and we look forward to facilitating more events like this in the future.
